Table of Contents

While at rehabilitation, you will have chances to go to the store, but packing all of the necessities the first time can make your time here a lot less stressful. Your goal is to bring everything you need at the beginning and pick up the essentials as you need them.

Important Items to Have For Day 1 of Treatment

Going into rehabilitation is a life-changing experience. It’s a time to completely remove drugs or alcohol from your life and take the first step to define the new you. Your first day at Monarch Shores is crucial, so it’s best to be prepared and have the proper documentation with you. Remember to bring these important items:

  • Personal identification, such as a driver’s license or passport
  • Insurance card(s)
  • List of medications
  • Regular physician’s contact information
  • Credit card and/or cash
  • Bring all currently prescribed medications in original bottles

To register at Monarch Shores, you need some form of government-issued identification and your insurance card(s). A list of medications is important so our doctor can make adjustments to your personally-crafted treatment, if need be. Your physician’s number is required in case we need to ask him or her any questions regarding your medical history. It’s also a good idea to have some form of money with you as you may never know when you’ll need to purchase additional items.

Personal Items are Welcome at Monarch Shores

Aside from personal identification and other documentation, it is also important to bring other personal items to help make your stay at Monarch more enjoyable. For example, you might want to bring a journal or some paper to document your journey and progress through treatment. If you’re someone who has a passion for drawing or painting, a sketchbook would be a fantastic way to show your feelings and personal growth.

Another common item people bring to rehab are photos of loved ones. If and when rehab becomes tough, you want to have the faces of family or friends to give you the extra motivation and strength you need to continue your fight through your treatment.

We also encourage all of our clients to feel free to bring any kind of personal form of entertainment. Some common items include MP3 players, cameras, and books. There is plenty of time to listen to music, take pictures, and read when you’re not in counseling or taking part in other activities at Monarch. Also, don’t forget your toothbrush and any other personal toiletries you might need.

Are alcohol and drugs ruining your life?

We have taken the necessary precautions to minimize the risk of exposure and transmission of the Coronavirus to those in our treatment programs, allowing them to focus on their recovery.

Pack Comfortable Clothes

At Monarch Shores, we want you to feel comfortable and encourage you to wear the clothes you please in your leisure time. We’re located in Dana Point, California where the average temperature is 73 degrees so appropriate bathing suits, shorts, and skirts are allowed. For most of the year it’s warm, but you also need to bring something warm for when it gets cold during the morning and at night.

When you’re not in therapy sessions or other forms of treatment you will also have time to explore parts of Southern California. Many clients go for a swim in the ocean, practice yoga, take walks, and participate in many other physical activities. If you want to burn some calories and relieve stress, bring clothes suited for mild or intense work-out sessions.

Proper foot wear is also a necessity that some clients tend to forget about when getting ready for rehab. It’s always a good idea to pack some athletic shoes, which are good for yoga and other physical activities. While comfortable casual shoes are great for walks around the property, ocean, and going out around Dana Point. Another thing people don’t think of is slippers. A good pair can make your feet feel comfortable when you’re in your room or walking around the facility.

What About Electronics in Rehab?

At Monarch Shores, we don’t want you to feel like you have to completely forget about your life outside of our facility, which is why we allow you to bring laptops, cellphones, and tablets. We make sure to supply Wi-Fi so that these various electronics can be used to stay in contact with your loved ones and your employer while you’re staying with us.

Your time at Monarch Shores is supposed to be about fighting addiction – don’t let forgotten items set you back. Make sure you make a checklist of everything you need and to double check before you take off to rehab.
