Residential Addiction Treatment In California
Residential treatment is often an integral part of an addiction treatment program. Understanding when a person goes to residential treatment, and what happens when they get there can eliminate many of the worries of those who are planning to attend rehab.

Following detox, which usually lasts between seven and 10 days, it’s time to move to the program that you have developed with your treatment team. This may involve moving to different Monarch Shores houses.

While our clients usually go from detox to residential care, the decision largely depends on what insurance providers will allow.

Your insurance provider will assemble a team to handle your case. The team often includes doctors, addiction treatment experts, and health care experts. This team, and the team at our facilities, determine the steps in your rehab program.

Typically, people go from detox to residential care, but clients might move to different Monarch houses to participate in partial hospitalization programs or intensive outpatient programs (PHPs and IOPs).

What happens in residential treatment?

Residential treatment is critical for many. It’s where you can learn about yourself and the factors that can trigger your desire to drink or use drugs.

Clients learn coping strategies so they can deal with everyday stressors that can cause relapses. Additionally, in individual therapy, you’ll have the opportunity to explore things that may have affected you and your life.

Although some people are nervous about participating in group therapy, it can be an integral part of your recovery process. Such gatherings can teach you that you’re not alone in your journey.

Groups can provide an opportunity to develop a sense of community as well as new ways to continue living clean and sober.

Will I be able to choose my treatment program?

When you begin your stay at our center, you’ll have a treatment team to assist you. You might have the same therapists, counselors, and team members throughout your stay with us.

A few different treatment programs have proven to be effective. You thus have options for your recovery journey:

  • 12-step programs – Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and other step-based treatment programs have been successful for some people working to overcome their addictions. Different steps explore different aspects of addiction, and support group members apply them in positive ways to enhance healthy recovery experiences.
  • Non-12-step programs – Instead of progressing through several steps, members of non-12-step programs utilize evidence-based recovery methods. Monarch Shores hosts a group and meetings affiliated with one such non-12-step group, SMART Recovery.
  • Dual diagnosis assistance – Untreated and undiagnosed emotional or mental conditions sometimes lead people to abuse drugs or alcohol to self-medicate. In these cases, our center addresses clients’ emotional or mental disorders at the same time as their addictions.

While you’ll work with the center to develop an individualized treatment plan, you’ll still be required to attend groups that can enhance your treatment and recovery.

Are alcohol and drugs ruining your life?

We have taken the necessary precautions to minimize the risk of exposure and transmission of the Coronavirus to those in our treatment programs, allowing them to focus on their recovery.
