Alcoholism doesn’t know the difference in social status. Instead, it effects people of every class in every society. As such, alcohol addiction in medical school students really shouldn’t come as any surprise.

What Studies say About Alcohol Addiction in Medical School Students

Lotte N. Dyrbye, M.D. is an educator at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. He headed a study in 2012 that looked at the prevalence of alcohol addiction in medical school students. In doing so he found that there are two reasons for this: extreme burnout and rising educational debt. Of course, there are other reasons that were attributed to student’s alcoholism in the past. However, this is the first study that’s made this link.

This study continues to state its concern about rising educational debt. Researchers believe that educational debt will continue to rise. They also believe that earnings won’t rise any time soon. As such, many believe that the toll of educational debt may grow even more severe.

Getting Help for Alcohol Addiction in Medical School Students

Alcohol addiction in medical school students is being dealt with by luxury rehab facilities. Students need the individual treatment and personalized attention these facilities offer. While almost every rehab offers group therapy, not all of them can offer lots of individual therapy. However, these one-on-one sessions with a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist are critical.

Patients attending luxury rehab receive hour-long therapy sessions. These typically occur at least once a week. Usually, these occur multiple times each week though. Attending intensive individual therapy sessions at least three times a week makes a major difference. In these sessions therapists use a variety of techniques. These are based on a client’s unique needs. Typically, they include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). They may also include hypnotherapy and neurofeedback too though.

Unfortunately, alcohol addiction in medical school students is a major problem today. This makes it even more important for those who work with these students to take notice. In doing so, they can help them get the help they need before their problem grows too far advanced. Remember, this is the next generation of healthcare providers. For this reason, it’s important that this starts happening today. So, if you find yourself in need of rehab for alcohol, you really should check into luxury rehab soon. While you have nothing to lose, you have a lot to gain.
